Eating breakfast is an important part of losing weight – that’s right – you can lose weight eating breakfast! Many people who are overweight or obese skip breakfast and think they are ok in doing that because at least that’s less calories they are eating, right?. Wrong actually!
The body needs a regular, steady supply of fuel spread evenly throughout the day in order to achieve maximum fat-burning, so skipping breakfast is not only NOT a good idea – skipping breakfast is one of those behaviours that can cause you to be fat!
Lose Weight Eating Breakfast
In the United States, the National Weight Control Registry claims that 90% of it’s successful weight loss members eat breakfast AT LEAST five times a week. And this makes total sense if you look at it from the blood sugar perspective – if you don’t eat breakfast, your blood sugar drops even lower and as a result, you’ll feel even hungrier than you might have and you’ll also have less energy. The aim of most people is to avoid ravenously hungry feelings – most people regard that as an unpleasant feeling. Yet people who skip breakfast regularly state that by mid-morning or lunch-time, they are “starving”. This leads to eating too much and overloading with calorie laden food.
Breakfast – Making Time For It
Many people convince themselves they just haven’t got time for breakfast. At my hypnosis clinic, when I get weight loss clients coming to see me, I regularly hear the following excuses
- I don’t have time because I’m rushing to work
- I’m so busy getting the kids ready that I forget
- I don’t feel like having breakfast because I’m still full from last night
- If I eat breakfast, I’ll be hungrier earlier in the day
Time is an interesting one – you have time but you don’t allow yourself to believe that. Get up 10 minutes earlier! Set a reminder on your phone to remind you to have breakfast! Realise that in order to stop overeating in the eveningtime, you must start by having breakfast! And yes, you will be hungrier earlier – you’re meant to be! Most naturally slim people eat all of their calories for the day before 7pm the evening – FACT!
Breakfast – Adjusting To It
The first and most important thing to do in order to incorporate breakfast into your daily lifestyle is – MAKE A START! If you haven’t eaten breakfast up until now, perhaps start at weekends or on your days off. Get into the habit of doing that and then introduce it into your working days too. And remember your eating patterns will adjust because of it – you may find yourself eating more earlier in the day but that’s fine – that just means you won’t overeat late at night any more.
